Has anyone had any luck with contacting a local newspaper or magazine regarding their business?
"We will be doing that soon but most every paper has a business section that will highlight new businesses. They are usually pretty easy to contact and are always looking for new companies to feature (especially if you live in a smaller area that doesn't have a lot of new businesses starting up every week). Good luck and let us know how you do."

"I am finishing an article tonight for a local parent magazine. The article is not about my business (it's about celebrating the small moments) but the note at the end of the article references my business. People are always looking for online and print articles or blogs and it's a great way to get exposure."

Hi Bonnie, we literally have around 100 news articles and clipping that I plan to start loading in the fall. The pictures i posted a few weeks ago are just the beginning. Some are for launch, others ideas and inspiration. The newspaper clippings make it easier to host Give-A-Book programs because you have proof of concept.
The only issue is that many of our articles are getting older. It was easier to get news coverage (even Opera) when these were so knew people didn't even have a computer.
Times have changes, any business with any product can find an interesting angle or pitch to get the media attention. Actually with self promoted videos you could shoot your own videos and create your own media coverage. The less polished the more interesting for viewers. Just make sure you have parents permission if you're taping their kids and plan to show the video.

P.s. Media coverage is fantastic for, and usually easier to attract, when you're doing Give-A-Book programs or hospital programs. The media loves to see local members/companies/groups sponsoring programs that hand out free books for kids. They're guaranteed to capture some excited kids reading their names over and over. The media is still hungry for "Feel good" news, so it's a win-win situation. Don't be afraid to share that fact with them too!
